Presidents Report

Next month we will be holding our Annual General Meeting reporting on the past year and preparing for the next. At this AGM, a number of long standing Members will be standing down after working hard for our club over many years.

Helen Bone has been on the committee for the past 25 years and has served in nearly every position except coach during this time. Helen will be missed by all members and committee of the Club, she will continue in her role as Secretary of the Knox Junior Domestic Committee and will help our new incoming Secretary to find their feet.

Also stepping down, is Gwen Palmer who has been around for nearly 15 years. Gwen has been Secretary, Assistant Secretary and a Grading Committee Member. We wish Gwen all the best and thank her for her great work.

Our Treasurer, Therese Sewell is winding back to the Assistant Treasurer’s role which will allow her to teach the new Treasurer the job. She will then stand down next year.

Our Vice President Steve Merchant, will retire from the committee due to work commitments, but has offered to help out with Grading and Fund Raising.

I know I have said this before, but this is my last Year as President. I am getting too old and cranky and we need a new vision in which to direct the Club. Now is the time to ask parents who are interested in helping out to put up their hands and stand for committee positions and help us to help your children play sport.

Being a committee member is a rewarding and fulfilling job. To watch our children grow in to young adults and then watch as they give back by coaching younger children, is a credit to them and their parents. People, over the years, have asked me why do I put so much time in to basketball. It is because I believe that every-one should give back to the community in which we live, and to help out as much as we can.

POSITIONS VOTED FOR WHICH ARE VACANT as of the 22nd September 2010 are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Registrar, Fundraising Convener, Uniform Officer, Director of Coaching, General Committee X 4, Grading Convener, plus up to 10 Grading Committee Members.

I look forward to seeing new faces at our AGM. Even if you do not have the time to help on the committee, come along to show support for your CHILD’S Club. Because, without help we will have no Club.

Wayne Sewell
President

Secretaries Report

This season we have had many new players join up as the season has continued. A special welcome to them and their family and we hope you enjoy your time at South-East Eagles. As the Winter Season draws to a close and the Summer season gets closer I have a few important things that I would like to remind you of: It is vital that you inform the secretary of any changes to your children’s details (address or phone number, especially mobile numbers) so we can keep our records up to date.

Please make sure if you cannot make training or a game to contact your coach and let them know. It can be very frustrating for a coach to turn up to training and only have 2 or 3 players there and not to have heard from anyone. Also, if you are missing a game, the coach needs to know so they can arrange for a fill in.

If your child is not playing next season please let me know asap as we are beginning the process of putting teams together for the Summer 2010/11 season. Also if you know of any new players or players playing with other clubs that would like to join South-East Eagles, please call me and let me know asap so we can get their details and paperwork organised.

Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season!

After 25 years on the committee of SEE, I am stepping down at the AGM in September. I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement in the club, having made many friends along the way. I would like to thank everyone for their help, support and friendship during my time at Eagles, especially Wayne, Gwen and Kirsty. I wish everyone well, and I will see you around the stadium during finals time.

Thanks
Helen Bone

GRADING COMMITTEE

Last Monday and Tuesday night’s, the Grading Committee ran grading sessions for the up coming Summer Season and would like to thank all the players who attended. It was good to see so many parents at training. The Grading Committee will be grading for the next 5 weeks, so if you have any questions now is the time to ask. All questions can be sent to my email address wayne.sewell@appleby.com.au and I will pass them on to the relevant Grading member.

TREASURER'S REPORT

We still have nearly $7,000.00 in outstanding FEES not paid for the current season. We will now be stopping any player taking the court who’s FEES are not paid. If your FEES are not paid ring the Treasurer now, Therese on 8711-8067.

It takes over $65.000.00 to run our Club, with Court Hire, Team Registrations, Insurance, KBI expenses and sundry items. It is not cheap. Prompt payment of FEES allows us to keep registration prices down.

FINALS ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to play in the finals a player must play 8 games during the season. Players do not get finals credit for a bye. If your child is sick or injured during the season please obtain a medical certificate and hand it to the secretary asap.

A player must not return to basketball before the date on the medical certificate, without a medical clearance from your doctor/physio. This clearance must also be handed to the secretary before your child plays.

PLAYERS WHO HAVE EXCELLED

Congratulations to Marek Toman who has been selected to represent Australia at the ‘Children of the World Camp” in Turkey during the 2010 FIBA World Championships from the 24th to the 31st August. Marek currently plays in our 14 a Grade boys team and coaches under 10 boys for the Club. We all wish Marek well in Turkey.

Congratulations also to Jordan Bass who has been selected to represent Knox in the under 14 National Championships. Jordan started at eagles as an under 8 and is now playing in our under 14 A-Grade Boys team. Good luck Joffa and hope it goes great for you.
