EYE OF THE EAGLE
7TH DECEMBER 2008
Hi All
The summer season is already here and it is important once again to highlight the importance of all players to have water bottles at all games. We obviously don't want any of our players to suffer the effects of dehydration. So players, and parents of younger players, please ensure those water bottles are with you. Coaches and Managers it is also your responsibility to ensure all players have water bottles.
Congratulations to all teams that made the finals of the winter season, regardless of the result the Club appreciates your commitment and efforts throughout the series.
Darren Joseph Fundraiser
As you are now all aware we have been running a fundraising raffle for the Joseph Family after the sad and sudden passing of Darren of a heart attack. Please sell all tickets and hand them in Monday at the Christmas break up. Thank you to all who have already sold their tickets. We are all part of our basketball family and help each other in time of need. to all the people who have donated money to our fundraiser, a big and grateful thank you. We have even had a team donate their money leftover from last season instead of having a break-up ... just goes to prove what a great Club we have. Should you wish to donate outside of the raffle, please call me at any time. Wayne 0403 524 683 or 8711 8067.
We are still looking for a coach for the under 18/4 girls team, if anyone is interested please contact me.
The following is an extract from a letter from a recently retired coach ... I had to clean it up a bit!!! Read Scott's letter here.
Thanks Scott, we look forward to seeing you come out of retirement! We miss you already. (We have it in writing!).
See you around the Courts

NOTES FROM THE SECRETARY
First of all, I would like to apologise to everyone who tried to contact me recently, but couldn't get a hold of me, both phones were out of action. All functioning again. thank you for your patience.
Darren Joseph Fundraiser
On behalf of the SEE Committee I would like to express our sincere thanks to all of you for supporting this fundraiser. The Joseph family have been a great asset to the South East Eagles for damn years and all of your support and generosity at this sad time is very much appreciated.
Reminders
- Please have the courtesy to let coaches know if your child won't be at training. It is very frustrating for coaches who volunteer their time to only have 2 players turn up.
- If you know that your child won't be playing on game day, please let the coach know ASAP so they can organise a fill-in if they need to.
- Make sure your child has plenty of water on hot days. Please take the time to read the Heat Policy document supplied with the latest printed newsletter.
- Any concerns about your child's grading are to be put in writing/email to the President, Steve Merchant with all your questions etc. this way Steve will be happy to respond.
To all Team Managers and Coaches
- Please make sure you have ice packs for all games
- That all kids have adequate water on hand for hot weather
- That all coaches remember to call your time-outs
- Remind players to bring a water bottle to training
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hop you all enjoy your break.
See you next year!

Grading by us and Knox Basketball
There has been a number of questions on how grading is done by both us, and Knox Basketball, so I will endeavour to explain it.
Our Club grades every season teams have a Grading Committee of 7 volunteers trying to grade 530 players ... not an easy job.
Firstly, we need to take into account age creep, where players go up an age group.then players not playing either a winter or summer season due to other commitments. We are then left with those who are playing ... thus grading starts.
Players are graded on ability, attitude and some will only play if playing with their mates. When teams are graded, we then have to submit them to Knox Basketball for final grading. We can place a team in BR and Knox will grade them in either B or C grade for which we have no control. We start each new season by playing 7/8 grading games where the grade Secretary's from Knox Basketball can either leave them in their current grade or move them up or down depending on their results, and results from other teams in their grade.
Once Knox has graded teams and the new season starts we cannot change them. Grading is the hardest job associated with Junior sport as everyone has an opinion yet no one wants to put up their hand and help us grade.
Next time you hear someone complaining about grading pass their name on to the Committee and we will ask them to help. If you would like to help, please contact Steve, or Wayne. Should you not be happy with the team or grade your child is playing in, please put it in writing and we will look into it and get back to you.
Try to remember the Club is run by volunteers who try their best and put in many house so your child can play basketball, we sometimes make a mistake and a chile will slip through, so we need your input if this happens.
