EYE OF THE EAGLE
9TH OCTOBER 2008
Hi All
As this is my first report officially as President my first order of duty is to thank Wayne and Helen for all their great work over the past years. The Club has gone from strength to strength and it’s all due to the hard work both Wayne and Helen have done together with the support from their committees.
Congratulations are in order for some great achievements by a number of our junior players. Firstly congratulations to Marek Toman for being selected in the Victorian State Schools Basketball team. Also well done to Celeste Smith and Sam Castles who were both members of the Knox Raiders Women’s VBL 2008 championship team. The VBL Women’s team won the competition beating Nunawading. Both Celeste and Sam have played junior domestic basketball with the South East Eagles. The club is proud of the achievements of the above players and wish them well in the future.
With the upcoming summer season approaching it is important once again to highlight the importance of all players to have water bottles at all games. We obviously don’t want any of our players to suffer the effects of dehydration. So players and parents of younger players please ensure those water bottles are with you.
We are approaching the finals for the winter season, for those coach’s, player and teams who are participating in the finals series congratulation and good luck. For those players & teams that are not going to be participating in finals – we hoped you enjoyed your season and look forward to seeing you back for the summer season.
A message for all current coach’s, could you please let the club know if you are coaching next season – either contact Raelene Griffin or myself. Any parent who is interested in coaching next season please contact me.
See you around the Courts

NOTES FROM THE SECRETARY
AGM
Your new committee is:
- President: Steve Merchant
- Vice President: Wayne Sewell
- Secretary: Raelene Griffin
- Assistant Secretary: Gwen Palmer
- Treasurer: Theresa Sewell
- Assistant Treasurer: Rae Noller
- Uniform Officer: Laurie Foster
- Boys Uniforms: Nicky Startton
- Girls Uniforms: Chris Kanellopoulos
- News Letter Editor: Tania Brodrick
- Grading Committee: Nathan Sewell, Kirsty Bone, Leanne Crees, Gwen Palmer, Steve Merchant, Wayne Sewell, Ross Brown, David Groom.
- General Committee: Sue Thomas
I would like to thank Sue Thomas and Ross Brown for being the only parents in the whole club apart from the committee to attend the Annual General Meeting. We can only assume that all our members are 100% happy with the way the club is being run so we will keep up the good work. . Schools Program We have been running a primary schools program in conjunction with the Knox Raiders Seniors and it has proved to be a great turnout as we have signed up a lot of new players in the last few months.
We’d like to welcome all the new Eagles and hope they enjoy their first season with us. New players or Players not returning If you have any friends who would like to join our club, please give them my contact details.
Also, if you will not be playing in the summer season, please let me know ASAP as we are currently in the process of picking the teams. Reminder to all parents and players If you are unable to make it to training or a game, please ensure that you contact your coach as soon as possible. It can be extremely frustrating for coaches to arrive to training or a game only to find a few players turn up, especially when they could have organised a fill in player. If you have changed your details recently (ie: phone/mobile, address) please contact me ASAP so I can update our records. Especially with the new season coming up where coaches will be ringing to let you know what team you’re in.
Injuries
If you have had an injury and will be out of action for a lengthy time it is most important that you get a doctors certificate to me ASAP. Not having one for being out of action can result in not being able to qualify for finals. There are also new rules for certificates. We now only have 21 days from the initial diagnosis to submit a certificate and players will not be eligible to play any games for the period of the time prescribed in the medical certificate. So the sooner you get a certificate to me the better.
Volunteers
We will be looking for some volunteers to score in the finals as we prefer that the parents in the team not score so that they can enjoy watching their child play on the day. We are also looking for anyone who would like to be a grade sec. If you would like to do any of these please contact me via email.
Fundraising
We will be having a Trivia Night next February so we are looking to start up a Trivia Committee. If anyone is interested in helping to form the committee please contact Raelene Griffin. Also, anyone wishing to donate prizes would be greatly appreciated I hope all players have had an enjoyable season so far and best of luck to those teams who will make finals.
GO EAGLES!!!

FEE INCREASE & REGISTRATION DAY
Due to the increase in costs associated with running a basketball Club we reluctantly have had to increase our fees from $70.00 to $80.00. However, if you pay your FEES on registration day Saturday 13th September at Knox Stadium between 8am and 6pm or before by post you will be eligible for a discount of $10.00 per player.
If you require a payment plan you must also attend Registration Day to make suitable arrangements. All Fees must be paid on this day failure to do so could place your child’s place in a team for next season in jeopardy. If you are not playing next season (Summer) please notify our Treasurer, Theresa on 8711 8067 and she will take you off our invoice list. See you all registration day!
