EYE OF THE EAGLE

Presidents Report

Welcome to this edition of the “Eye of the Eagle” and also welcome to the winter 2009 basketball season. I would like to thank all Coach’s and Team Managers for volunteering their time this season for giving up their time to fulfill their respective roles.

With the summer season well and truly over I would like to congratulate all teams for their efforts – in particular congratulations to all those teams that made finals and whether you won or lost you represented our Basketball Club well.

Some important dates coming up are the Presentation Night on July 25, 2009 and the Annual General Meeting on August 26, 2009.

Due to work commitments I will not be standing for the position of President after the AGM, if you are interested in filling this role or any other role on the committee please contact myself.

Regards
Stephen Merchant, President

Secretaries Report

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back all our families and coaches who have returned for Winter 2009 season. To the new families who have joined our club welcome, we are sure your stay with us will be a happy one.  A number of new coaches have joined our ranks - to them thank you for your support.

A reminder to all COACHES and players to ensure you arrive at your game with a minimum of ten minutes before start time.  A reminder to all PLAYERS if you are not training or playing please ensure that your COACH knows to enable them to arrange a fill-in player for game if needed.  ONLY THE REGISTRAR can arrange a fill-in, Raelene Griffin can be contacted on 0407 112 420.

IF YOU HAVE MOVED or CHANGED YOUR PHONE NUMBER please let me know immediately to ensure all our records/coaches etc are kept up to date and informed.

Hope you all enjoy the Winter 2009 season.
Until next time.
Gwen Palmer, Secretary
0438 292 315 or email: gwenpalmer_1954@yahoo.com.au.

Fill-Ins

We have appointed a Registrar who is the only person to arrange fill-ins for this Club. Raelene's number is 0407 112 420. Please remember to give Raelene enough time to arrange players. 30 mins before a game is a very hard task to set someone.

COACHES if you have a player who is returning either as emergency or full-time player YOU MUST email/ring the Secretary - failure to do so could result in our Club receiving ladder points deducted which is frustrating and costly to our Club.  If you cannot contact Raelene please ring Gwen 0438 292 315 or at the very least SMS the details.

Reminders

If you are not training please keep off the courts, this includes between training sessions, it can be off putting to coaches when they are talking to their players to look up and see others shooting on their court.

During a game - no one other than the Coach/Team Manager and players should be sitting on the bench, please ensure that the Coach and team are the only people on the court during a game.

Congratulations

We as a Club would like to congratulate HELEN BONE for receiving the Nick Wakeling’s Victoria Day Award nominated by Knox Basketball.  This accolade is given to show appreciation for hard work and dedication to the basketball fraternity.

Helen you have dedicated over 21 years to basketball in a number of areas and we cannot think of anyone more deserving this award. CONGRATULATIONS once again SOUTH-EAST EAGLES BASKETBALL CLUB.

Congratulations to Jordan Bass on his outstanding achievement of being invited to attend the final try-outs for the Victorian Primary Schools State side which were held in Coburg over the last school holidays. Although Jordan was not successful in securing a position within the team his efforts and achievement need to be acknowledged. The try-outs are a tough and stringent four stage process and to part of the final training squad is fantastic. Well done Jordan, all of us at Eagles are very proud of you.

Congratulations also to the following teams who made it through to the Summer 08/09 Grand Final!!
